Colquitt County Branch NAACP Annual Banquet
On Sunday evening, November 18, 2007 the Colquitt County Branch of the NAACP held their annual banquet at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Moultrie, Georgia.
Attending from Harveys was Jeremiah Ooten (Store Manager Harveys #2327 Moultrie) and Cheryl Duckworth (OD Specialist and member of the Harveys Diversity Council). This evening, Harveys was recognized and awarded a plaque for its many years of service and sponsorship to the national organization.
Cheryl quoted, "Jeremiah and I were offered many 'thank you's' for attending the banquet and for Harveys continued support. The members of the organization shared with us how they are shoppers at Harveys and also have relatives employed at our stores. In their kindness and words that evening we saw their support to Harveys as well. We were overwhelmed."
Thank you Harveys Supermarket #2327 for all that you do for Moultrie and Colquitt County, Georgia! When we support our communities in which we live and work, they definitely are appreciative and support us!

Harveys "Nuts for Our Troops"
Harveys Supermarkets teamed up with Hardy Peanuts for a BOGO promotion for customers to purchase a bag of Hardy boiled p-nuts and donate their free bag to our men and women serving overseas this holiday season. With the free bag of Hardy's boiled p-nuts customers were given a card to fill out for a solider to receive with the bag of boiled p-nuts. Once the promotion was over Harveys had a semi with the palettes of peanuts in front of the corporate office in Nashville, Georgia to transfer the p-nuts to the Georgia National Guard. The Georgia National Guard will deliver the p-nuts to units overseas with the personal hand-written notes attached to the bags in time for the holidays. Harveys presented the Georgia National Guard with over 6500 bags of boiled p-nuts to be sent to our troops.
The guardsmen who were at the Harveys corporate office had just gotten home from a tour in Iraq and were recipients of a delivery of Hardy boiled p-nuts that elementary students had sent over in the summer of 2007. They loved getting the p-nuts that reminded them so much of home and were certain that the troops who would receive this shipment of nuts would be just as thrilled and would enjoy them tremendously, especially with the handwritten notes attached.
Quote from Michael Purvis, Harveys Director of Produce, "Many of us have never had to experience the circumstances of our troops; like being away from home and their families serving our country during the holidays. Though this is just a small gesture of appreciation for their service we hope that the gift and heartfelt touch from home brings feelings of joy and happiness as well as understanding that we are grateful for our troops and the outstanding dedication and service they are giving." Harveys has 69 stores operating in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
Harveys appreciates the support of our customers in saying Thank you to those serving our country and being away from home this holiday season.

Harveys sponsors and attends the Oak Street Festival in Waycross, Georgia
For the past three years, Waycross has been celebrating the revitalization efforts taking place on the Historically Black Business District of Oak Street. Oak Street of the 50's, 60's and early 70's was a place where black professionals and entertainers visited, but since then, it has become an increased focus of revitalization.
Waycross Operation Weed & Seed and several community leaders have joined together to host the Annual Oak Street Festival, which this year was held Saturday, November 3, 2007. This festival is used to bring attention to the needs of the area and celebrating the community's background, history and culture. The theme this year is Celebrating the Future while Honoring the Past…Think the Unthinkable.
Last year's festival had over 2500 visitors, more than 40 vendors and 5 musical guests…Think the Unthinkable!
Our two Harveys supermarkets in Waycross are very appreciative of the community's support and business, and this was a chance for our organization to give back to Waycross. Saturday was a beautiful fall day for the festival goers as they enjoyed inspiring musical acts, arts and crafts, the biggest variety of delicious foods imaginable and a large part of the Waycross, Ware County community. Seen on their way to the festival was left to right: Christy Justic (store 2326), Cindy Hendrix (CSM, store 2326), Hailey Shatteen, Taylor Shatteen (daughters of Levon Shatteen), Levon Shatteen (SM 2326 and Harveys Diversity Council Member) and Cheryl Duckworth (OD and Harveys Diversity Council Member).
